What is a policy excess?:
Compulsory excess – Is an excess that is a requirement applied by your insurer. This will differ depending on your personal driving experience/ circumstances. A compulsory excess is tends to be applied if you drive a particular type of vehicle or you policy has inexperienced drivers named on it. Most policies also have a compulsory excess for fire, theft or windscreen claims.
Voluntary excess – A voluntary excess is agreed with your insurance company before your policy comes in force, and is normally in addition to a policy's compulsory excess. A voluntary excess can be increased or decreased to find an appropriate premium level for you
What is a No Claims Bonus (NCB)?
A no claims discount is gained for the completion of 12 months continuous cover with no claim being made. 12 months continuous cover without a claim provides you with 1 year NCB. An NCB is not acceptable to an insurer if it expired more than two years prior to you new policy being incepted.
What are modifications?
Modifications are when the body, suspension or vehicle has been altered from the original specification. Common modifications tend to be bodywork, alloy wheels or exhausts. What is a tracking device?
A tracking device allows the authorities to find a vehicle if it is stolen. This is normally a capability that is subscribed to annually, but some vehicles will have this device installed by the cars manufacturer.
What are classed as hazardous/dangerous locations?
The main locations that fit this description are oil/gas/chemical refineries, military bases, nuclear/power stations, explosive/ammunition/pyrotechnic industries. Who is the main driver of your vehicle?
The main driver is the person who will be using the vehicle the most. If a vehicle is insured for another person other than the policy holder, and you know that they will be the main driver this must be declared. Failure to declare this could invalidate a claim.
